BJP bets big on cash schemes in Bengal election

The Bharatiya Janata Party has unveiled its manifesto for the West Bengal Assembly elections with a strong focus on direct financial benefits, indicating that welfare and cash assistance could dominate the political contest.

The party has announced around 15 different allowance-based schemes targeting women, unemployed youth, farmers and economically weaker sections. A key promise is a monthly financial assistance of ₹3,000 for women from poor and middle-class families, along with support for jobless youth.

Farmers have also been given special attention. The BJP has proposed increasing annual assistance under the PM-Kisan scheme to ₹9,000 by adding a state contribution, along with ensuring equal benefits for all farmers by removing disparities in existing schemes.

Healthcare features prominently in the manifesto as well. The party has pledged to implement Ayushman Bharat in the state, enabling free treatment across India and possibly enhancing the insurance coverage beyond current limits.

Overall, the manifesto reflects an aggressive welfare-driven approach, positioning the election as a direct contest over financial support and benefits, in response to the existing schemes run by the ruling Trinamool Congress.
