Rain is set to return to West Bengal from Tuesday, with widespread showers expected across the state for the next four to five days. Both North and South Bengal are likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall during this period, according to weather indications.
The most intense spell is expected between Wednesday, October 29, and Friday, October 31, when several districts could receive heavy showers. However, meteorologists have clarified that it is still too early to confirm if any region will experience very heavy rainfall.
No cyclone threat, but low pressure to trigger rains
The upcoming rainfall will be caused by a developing low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. Though the system might intensify further, it is expected to move inland through Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, thereby ruling out any direct cyclone threat for West Bengal.
As the system travels northward through Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, and then towards North Bengal and the Northeast, it will bring consistent rain but without major storm activity.
Unlike the early October deluge, this system will not be aided by the monsoon current, which has already withdrawn. The showers will therefore be solely under the influence of the low-pressure system, making the intensity comparatively lower.
Scattered rain this weekend
Meanwhile, isolated thunderstorms and light showers are expected this weekend — on Saturday and Sunday — across parts of South Bengal.
Jagatdhatri Puja festivities may face rain disruptions
With the weather system active through next week, the Jagatdhatri Puja celebrations in Chandannagar and other parts of Bengal could face rain interruptions. Continuous showers from midweek may dampen outdoor festivities and crowd gatherings.
Despite that, forecasters assure there is no major storm threat — only widespread rainfall that could bring cooler temperatures and waterlogging in some low-lying areas.
