More than 58 lakh voter names have been marked for deletion from the draft electoral roll in West Bengal following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision (SCIR) process, according to data released by the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
A total of 58,17,851 names are set to be removed from the draft voter list prepared after door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers across the state. The deletions include voters who were found to be deceased, those who have permanently migrated, names that could not be verified despite repeated visits, and duplicate or otherwise invalid entries.
Election officials said the revision exercise was carried out to ensure greater accuracy in the electoral rolls ahead of upcoming elections. During the SIR process, field-level officials verified voter details through physical visits and cross-checking of records.
The draft voter list, incorporating these deletions, is scheduled to be published on December 16. Once the draft is released, voters will be given an opportunity to file claims and objections if they believe their names have been wrongly deleted or if corrections are required.
After the claims and objections period and subsequent hearings, the final voter list will be published. Election authorities have urged voters to check their details carefully once the draft rolls are made public to avoid any issues during polling.
