Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a phone conversation on Saturday with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, where he conveyed greetings on Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz, while also raising concerns about recent attacks on critical infrastructure in the region.
Sharing details on X, Modi expressed hope that the festive season would bring peace, stability, and prosperity to West Asia. He also condemned attacks on key infrastructure, warning that such actions threaten regional stability and disrupt global supply chains.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maritime security, highlighting the need to keep shipping routes open and secure. He also acknowledged Iran’s continued support in ensuring the safety of Indian nationals residing there.
This was the second conversation between the two leaders since the conflict began on February 28. During their earlier discussion on March 12, President Pezeshkian briefed Modi on the situation in Iran and shared his assessment of regional developments.
The conflict has now entered its 22nd day, with no signs of de-escalation. Earlier on Saturday, the United States and Israel carried out a strike on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility. Iranian authorities confirmed damage to the site but stated there was no radioactive leakage.
In a reported response, Iran launched two ballistic missiles at the joint US-UK military base at Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, marking a significant expansion of the conflict’s geographic scope.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces intensified airstrikes on Hezbollah-linked targets in Beirut and issued evacuation warnings for seven neighborhoods in the city’s southern suburbs.
These developments unfolded as millions in Iran marked Eid al-Fitr and Nowruz amid ongoing military tensions. The United States has said it is considering steps to reduce the intensity of the conflict, though it has not indicated any plans for a formal ceasefire.
