For the first time since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur in May 2023, BJP MLAs belonging to both Meitei and Kuki communities came together under one roof in New Delhi. The meeting marks a significant political development amid prolonged unrest and deep divisions in the state.
The legislators were called to the national capital by the party’s central leadership to discuss the situation in Manipur, with a focus on restoring peace and political stability. Sources indicated that the interaction was aimed at breaking the long-standing deadlock that has kept MLAs from the two communities apart for more than a year.
Manipur has witnessed sustained ethnic violence since May 3, 2023, leading to large-scale displacement, loss of lives, and administrative paralysis. Political engagement within the state has remained strained, with many lawmakers avoiding joint appearances due to security concerns and community tensions.
The Delhi meeting has also fueled speculation about possible political realignments and steps toward reviving an elected government in Manipur, which is currently under President’s Rule. While no formal decisions were announced, the very act of Meitei and Kuki BJP MLAs sitting together is being seen as a symbolic step toward dialogue and reconciliation.
Party leaders described the meeting as part of ongoing efforts to ensure peace, unity, and a return to normal governance in Manipur, stressing that sustained dialogue remains essential to resolving the crisis.
