The enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal has been completed, clearing the way for the publication of the draft voter list. Election officials said the draft electoral roll will be published on Tuesday, marking a key step in the revision process being carried out ahead of future elections.
According to the Election Commission, the SIR exercise involved a door-to-door verification drive across the state to update the voter database. The process aimed to remove names of deceased voters, those who have shifted permanently to other places, and cases of duplication, while also identifying eligible voters who may have been left out earlier.
Before the start of the SIR process, West Bengal had over 7.6 crore registered voters. Following enumeration, a significant number of names have been flagged for deletion due to various reasons such as death, relocation outside the state, or non-verification. The draft list to be published on Tuesday will reflect these preliminary changes.
Election officials said the draft list is not final and will remain open for public scrutiny. Voters whose names are missing, wrongly included, or have errors in details will be able to file claims and objections within the stipulated period. Special attention will be given to voters placed in categories such as “no mapping” or “doubtful,” whose records could not be conclusively verified during enumeration.
After the publication of the draft roll, Booth Level Officers are expected to conduct further field verification where required. Hearings will also be held to resolve objections and claims submitted by voters.
The final electoral roll, incorporating all corrections after verification and hearings, is scheduled to be published in February 2026. Election authorities have urged voters to check the draft list carefully once it is released to ensure their names and details are correctly recorded.
