Chittaranjan, West Bengal: On the eve of Vishwakarma Puja, new possibilities have emerged for fresh initiatives at the unused land of Hindustan Cables.
A high-level delegation of the Border Security Force (BSF), which arrived yesterday, stayed overnight and once again carried out an extensive on-site inspection of the Hindustan Cables premises on September 16. They were accompanied throughout by Hindustan Cables’ officer, R.N. Ojha.
The BSF officials—Chandan Kumar Singh, Lakhan Chandra Saha, and Shri Mukul—were seen mapping and marking specific areas during their survey. Sources said that they were sending reports directly to higher authorities from the site.
During today’s inspection of nearly 947 acres of the Hindustan Cables property, the team paid particular attention to areas such as Deshbandhu Park, New Market, Guest House, Old Colony, and Ranchi More. Later in the day, the delegation reportedly left for Behrampore.
According to sources, the BSF has shown a strong preference for the Hindustan Cables land. Though they had previously considered other closed industrial units in West Bengal, such as Senrel and J.K. Nagar, the strategic advantages of the Hindustan Cables location have encouraged them to prioritize this site.
Plans are reportedly under discussion to acquire more than 300 acres of the land to set up facilities including a firing range, training school, parade ground, market, and township. Infrastructure to accommodate at least 2,000 BSF personnel is said to be in the pipeline.
Meanwhile, reliable sources also indicated that the CMD of Hindustan Cables has been summoned to Delhi with all relevant details. With these developments, there is growing speculation that a formal blueprint for new initiatives on the long-unused Hindustan Cables land could be unveiled as early as December this year.
