Legendary singer Asha Bhosle passes away at 92

Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle died in Mumbai at the age of 92, marking the end of an extraordinary chapter in Indian music.

She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital a day before her death after suffering from severe exhaustion and a chest infection. Despite medical efforts, she passed away due to multi-organ failure.

Asha Bhosle’s career spanned more than seven decades, during which she recorded over 12,000 songs in several languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Gujarati. Celebrated for her unmatched versatility, she excelled across genres such as classical, ghazals, cabaret, pop and folk music.

Born in 1933 into the iconic Mangeshkar family, she began her musical journey at a young age and went on to become one of the most influential voices in Indian cinema. While her sister Lata Mangeshkar was known for her melodic purity, Asha Bhosle stood out for her bold experimentation and ability to adapt to changing musical styles.

Her death has led to widespread mourning across the country, with tributes pouring in from political leaders, film personalities and fans alike. Her last rites will be held in Mumbai.

With her passing, Indian music has lost a legend whose voice will continue to resonate across generations.
