The Union Budget will be presented on February 1, which falls on a Sunday, marking the first time in nearly two and a half decades that the country’s annual Budget exercise will take place on a weekend. The announcement was made by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju.
He said the President has approved the schedule for the Budget Session of Parliament. The session will begin on January 28 and continue until April 2. On the opening day, Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
The Economic Survey, which provides an overview of the state of the economy and traditionally precedes the Budget, will be tabled on January 29. Despite February 1 being a Sunday, the government has decided to go ahead with the presentation on that day, ending speculation about a possible change in schedule.
The Budget will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and will outline the government’s fiscal plans, expenditure priorities and economic roadmap for the coming financial year.
