Jammu and Kashmir Boy’s ‘Toy’ Turns Out to Be Chinese-Made Rifle Scope

A six-year-old boy in Jammu and Kashmir narrowly escaped danger after picking up what he believed was a toy from a garbage dump, only for it to be later identified as a Chinese-made rifle scope. The incident took place in the Asrarabad area of Jammu and has raised serious security concerns among authorities.

According to officials, the child was playing near a waste dumping site when he came across the object and began treating it as a toy. Alert locals noticed the unusual device and informed the police. Upon examination, security personnel confirmed that the item was not a harmless object but a scope used with firearms, commonly mounted on rifles for targeting.

The discovery was considered particularly sensitive as the garbage dump is located close to the headquarters of a central security agency. Following the recovery of the scope, police and security forces launched a search operation in nearby areas, including parts of Sidhra, to determine how the equipment ended up there and whether more such items were present.

During the investigation, a 24-year-old man from the Samba district was detained for questioning in connection with the incident. Authorities are trying to establish the source of the scope, how it was transported, and whether it has any links to militant or criminal activity. Initial findings suggest the scope was manufactured in China, adding another layer of concern for security agencies already vigilant about cross-border threats.

Officials have reassured residents that there is no immediate cause for panic and that the situation is under control. However, the incident has highlighted the risks posed by discarded or abandoned suspicious objects, especially in sensitive regions. Police have urged the public to report any unfamiliar or suspicious items immediately and to ensure that children stay away from garbage dumps and unsecured areas.

Investigations are ongoing, and further details are expected as security agencies continue to probe the matter.
