Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern and solidarity over the deteriorating health condition of Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, assuring India’s readiness to extend support if needed. Modi conveyed his sentiments through a social media message, acknowledging Zia’s long contribution to public life and wishing for her swift recovery.
Khaleda Zia, aged 80, has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital in Dhaka since November 23 after suffering severe health complications, including a serious lung infection. Medical sources indicate that her condition remains critical, with multiple organs weakened by long-standing issues related to the liver, kidneys, and heart. She has been placed in the Coronary Care Unit and is under close supervision of a specialist medical team.
Following Modi’s message, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party publicly thanked the Indian Prime Minister, expressing appreciation for his concern and goodwill. BNP leaders stated that Modi’s support at this critical moment carries emotional and diplomatic significance, particularly as the party and its supporters are anxiously monitoring Zia’s condition.
Khaleda Zia, who served as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister twice, remains an influential figure in the country’s opposition politics. Her prolonged health crisis has intensified public discourse in Bangladesh, with BNP calling for prayers and emphasizing urgency of her treatment.
Modi’s outreach is being viewed as a gesture of regional humanitarian cooperation and a reminder of India’s interest in maintaining stability and goodwill with political actors across Bangladesh’s spectrum.
