Coal Secretary to Review Jharia Rehabilitation, Development Works in Dhanbad on Friday

Union Coal Secretary Vikram Dev Dutt will visit Dhanbad on Friday to participate in a series of review meetings and field inspections concerning coal sector operations and the ongoing Jharia rehabilitation programme. During the visit, he will meet officials of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) and the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA), followed by on-site inspections in Belgarhia and other affected areas.

Ahead of his arrival, Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner Aditya Ranjan reviewed administrative preparations in Belgarhia on Thursday. He said the district administration is working to ensure that all displaced families receive improved facilities, better access to government schemes, and the entitlements guaranteed under the rehabilitation initiative.

Ranjan added that efforts are underway to transform Belgarhia into a modern residential township, with housing structures modelled on premium private apartments. The upcoming residential clusters will feature 24×7 electricity, water supply, street lighting, and enhanced security. A new police station is also being built to strengthen law and order. Additionally, several surrounding roads are being renovated and widened into four-lane routes, which officials believe will help Belgarhia emerge as a prominent urban locality in Dhanbad in the coming years.

Highlighting livelihood initiatives, the Deputy Commissioner said that 20 e-rickshaws have already been distributed to unemployed youths in the area. Further consultations will be held to understand their aspirations and create additional employment opportunities.
