Early Winter Chill Grips South Bengal, Bolpur shivers at 11.6°C, kalyani drops to 12

In an unusual early cold spell for November, temperatures across South Bengal dipped sharply, with Kolkata recording a minimum of 16.6°C today. Bolpur emerged as the coldest location in South Bengal, where the mercury dropped to 11.6°C. Susprisingly Kalyani, which is much closer to Kolkata, also experienced a sharp dip, touching 12°C.

Several Key Locations Fall Below 13°C
A number of places in South Bengal recorded temperatures below 13°C, including:

  • Asansol: 12.2°C
  • Panagarh: 12.3°C
  • Bankura: 12.2°C

Purulia was slightly higher at 13°C, yet still much colder than typical November conditions.

Coastal Belt Also Feeling the Chill
Even along the coast, the cold made its presence felt.

  • Digha dropped to 14.6°C
  • Canning: 14°C
  • Diamond Harbour: 14.9°C

It is rare to see coastal humidity zones register such low November temperatures.

November Chill Unusual, Hints at Stronger December Winter
It has been a long time since South Bengal experienced such a cold November. If this pattern persists, a strong and intense winter is expected from mid-December onward.

Forecast: Cold for Now, Slight Rise Ahead
For the next 2–3 days, similar temperatures are expected to continue. After that, due to incoming cloud cover, a slight rise in night temperatures is likely.

This rare November chill is being seen as a potential precursor to one of the stronger winters in recent years for Bengal.
