Widespread Rain Likely Across West Bengal Till November 1

Rain is in forecast for entire West Bengal even though Cyclone Montha has significantly weakened into a well-marked low-pressure area lying over Chhattisgarh. It is expected to track north-northeastwards towards the Bihar–Nepal border. As it shifts, the system will continue drawing moisture from the Bay of Bengal, keeping West Bengal under its weather influence and leading to frequent showers in multiple regions of the state.

Kolkata and Surrounding Districts
Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, and North and South 24 Parganas will continue to witness intermittent rainfall till November 1. The rain will come in short spells without long-lasting or extremely heavy downpours. Roads may remain damp and cloudy skies are likely to persist, but major disruptions are not anticipated.

Heavier Rain in Western and Northern Plains
Stronger rainfall activity is expected in the western part of the state including Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Bardhaman and Birbhum, along with Murshidabad, Malda, Uttar and Dakshin Dinajpur. Several phases of heavy showers are likely through October 31, which could momentarily affect travel and local outdoor activities.

North Bengal Weather Alert
North Bengal is forecast to receive heavy rain on October 30 and very heavy rainfall on October 31 due to the system’s proximity and supporting weather conditions. Although river levels remain comparatively low because of prolonged dry weather earlier in the month, residents along riverbanks—especially in areas where embankments weakened during the severe flooding on October 4—have been urged to remain cautious.

Flash Flood Risk Low but Caution Needed
Meteorologists indicate there is currently no major fear of sudden flash floods as water levels in most rivers have dropped. However, localized flooding in vulnerable pockets cannot be entirely ruled out if rain intensifies briefly.

Improvement Expected From November 2
The system is expected to move away by November 2, leading to clear skies and better weather conditions statewide. As clouds disperse, nighttime temperatures are likely to fall gradually, bringing an early feel of winter across many districts.
