Weather Improving Across state: Northerly Winds indicating Monsoon Withdrawal round the corner

After days of rain and flooding across parts of North Bengal, and also moderate to heavy rains over South, the weather is finally showing signs of improvement. From Monday, no heavy rainfall is forecast anywhere in West Bengal — neither in the plains of South Bengal nor in the hills and foothills of the north.

In several of the flood-affected districts of North Bengal, including Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar, skies are beginning to clear with intervals of sunshine. Though a few drops of intermittent rains are contuing, the conditions are expected to improve further through the day as the atmosphere gradually dries up.

In South Bengal, light rain continues in some coastal areas of South 24 Parganas this morning, but the showers are likely to subside by afternoon, giving way to clearer skies and periods of sunshine.

There is a distinct change in the wind pattern since early morning mainly over South Bengal. The prevailing southerly winds that had been feeding moisture into the region are now giving way to cooler northerly currents. This shift marks the first clear indication of the monsoon’s withdrawal from West Bengal.

While isolated thunderclouds and short-lived microbursts may still occur in some pockets, the overall weather trend across the state is improving rapidly. No major weather-related disruptions or heavy rainfall are expected over the next few days, and temperatures are likely to remain moderate, with a slight nip in the air expected to develop by mid-week — a classic sign of the season’s change.
