Banks in several parts of the country will remain closed on all seven days of the upcoming week (September 29 to October 5) due to religious festivals, national holidays, and weekend closures. The week coincides with Navratri, Durga Puja, Gandhi Jayanti, and Vijaya Dashami celebrations.
According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, bank holidays vary by state and are observed in addition to the second and fourth Saturdays of the month and all Sundays.
Bank holidays from September 29 to October 5:
- September 29 (Monday): Banks will remain closed in Agartala, Kolkata, and Guwahati for Maha Saptami (Durga Puja).
- September 30 (Tuesday): Closures in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Imphal, Jaipur, Kolkata, Patna, and Ranchi for Maha Ashtami/Durga Ashtami.
- October 1 (Wednesday): Multiple cities including Agartala, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gangtok, Guwahati, Itanagar, Kanpur, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi, Shillong, and Thiruvananthapuram will observe a holiday for Maha Navami, Dussehra, Ayudha Puja, Vijayadasami, and Durga Puja (Dasain).
- October 2 (Thursday): A nationwide closure for Gandhi Jayanti, along with Dasara, Vijaya Dashami, Durga Puja (Dasain), and Janmotsav of Sri Sri Sankardeva.
- October 3 (Friday): Banks closed in Gangtok for Durga Puja (Dasain).
- October 4 (Saturday): Banks closed in Gangtok for Durga Puja (Dasain).
- October 5 (Sunday): Weekly closure across the country.
Banking services during holidays
While physical bank branches will remain closed, customers can continue to access digital banking services such as internet banking, mobile banking, UPI payments, and ATMs for cash withdrawals.
The list of bank holidays is prepared jointly by the RBI and state governments, taking into account national occasions, local festivals, cultural events, and operational requirements. Updates are issued through official notifications and the RBI website.
