New Delhi: India’s largest airline, IndiGo, announced the suspension of all flights to and from Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on Tuesday following escalating violence in Nepal.
“In view of the prevailing situation in Kathmandu, the airport has been closed for operations. Consequently, all flights to and from Kathmandu stand suspended until further notice,” IndiGo said in a post on X.
The operator of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), also confirmed that Nepalese authorities had shut down the airport and advised passengers to check with their airlines for updates.
Affected travellers can either reschedule their trips or request refunds directly through IndiGo’s website. The airline said it is closely monitoring developments and coordinating with local authorities, assuring customers that services will resume as soon as conditions allow.
Tata Group-owned Air India also cancelled its flights on the Delhi–Kathmandu–Delhi route on Tuesday. “Given the current situation in Kathmandu, flights AI2231/2232, AI2219/2220 and AI217/218 have been cancelled today. We are closely monitoring the situation. Passenger and crew safety remains our top priority,” the airline said in a statement.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet announced the cancellation of its Kathmandu flights for September 10, 2025, citing the same security concerns. The airline urged passengers to rebook or claim refunds, adding that updates will be shared through SMS, email, and its helpline numbers.
All three carriers emphasised that passenger safety remains their primary concern and advised travellers to remain alert for further advisories.
