Adani Airports has unveiled a ₹10,000 crore investment plan for the expansion of Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) in Lucknow. The expansion will be carried out in phases, focusing on boosting passenger capacity, upgrading infrastructure, adopting advanced technology, and strengthening cargo facilities.
So far, the company has invested ₹2,401 crore in constructing a new terminal and developing landside road infrastructure. Currently, CCSIA handles around 8 million passengers annually. With the completion of Terminal 3, Phase 2 — expected by 2026–27 at an additional cost of ₹900 crore — the airport’s capacity will increase to 14 million passengers per year.
An Adani Airports spokesperson stated that the airport will adopt “swing operations,” allowing common use of facilities for both domestic and international flights depending on peak traffic. This approach is aimed at streamlining operations while enhancing passenger experience by integrating modern infrastructure with art, culture, and technology.
At present, the airport has seven operational aerobridges, parking for 15 aircraft simultaneously, and the capacity to handle Type D aircraft. Lucknow’s air connectivity has steadily grown, with 42 direct routes now available — 31 domestic and 11 international. Nearly 19% of total passenger traffic comes from international travelers. The city also contributes about 4% to Uttar Pradesh’s GDP, underscoring its economic significance.
Cargo services form another key focus of the expansion. Adani Airports has set a target of achieving 50,000 metric tonnes of cargo capacity within the next five years. Plans are also underway to launch new international routes, including direct flights to Vietnam and Singapore.
The expansion highlights Adani Airports’ long-term strategy to establish Lucknow as a major aviation hub in Uttar Pradesh, supporting both passenger and cargo growth in the region.
